Latitude of a location is the distance to the Equator measured as an angle. The Equator has latitude 0 degrees, and each pole has latitude 90 degrees.

The angle can be visualised like this. Draw a line that connects your location to the centre of the Earth. Draw another line from the centre of the Earth to the point in the Equator that is nearest to your location. The angle between those two lines is the latitude of your location.
