LONDON (Reuters) - Terrorism suspects held under virtual house arrest in Britain suffer "Kafkaesque" treatment in special courts that review secret evidence against them, a committee of legislators said on Monday.

The committee's report said "no right-minded person" would think the suspects had a fair hearing when they often had no idea of the case against them.

Yes.

But the people you are talking about are not terrorists. They are people who are suspected of being terrorists.

We walk a fine line when it comes to the denial of civil liberties. If we allow a terrorist (note, not a suspected terrorist) access to the information that is used against them, they may be able to ensure that the 'source' is no longer able to provide that evidence. We use similar measures when it comes to certain crimes, by protecting witnesses through identity changes and the like.

Yes, the terror laws have been abused (once as far as we know) and yes, there is the possibility that they are open to abuse, but I personally think that the current situation is the least worst one that we can have.

Special courts? This is absurd. If you want to protect national secrets put gagging orders on participants and say no journalists - but the courts should not be held secretly where nobody can review their proceedings! It truly is Kafkaesque when people are arrested, but aren't allowed to be told for what - even when they're on trial and even imprisoned.

Once the P.M. ratifies the E.U. treaty(formerly the European Constitution) we'll all be treated in a Kafkesque fashion. I assume you are referring to The Trial.
