well, im gettin braces in 4 days. I go spacers in my teeth 2 days ago. Today she will just look at ur teeth, if she thinks you need braces she will get some x-rays of your mouth 2day or ask u to go somewhere else and get x-rays.
You may need to get some teeth pulled out (i didn't :D), my friend did, but she got needles in her mouth so her face went numb and she couldn't feel anything, she said it hurt quite a bit bit she got over it in a day or two.
Two days ago i got spacers in my teeth. The spacers are like mini rubber bands that the dentist puts inbetween your back teeth. I got 8, 2 in each back corner of my mouth. It was uncomfortable gettin them in and they r still a bit sore now but not 2 bad. But it is sore when you try 2 chew food.
I was talkin 2my friend with braces and she said that the actual braces aren't worse than the spacers, but i don't personally know
dw, it's not really dat bad

the pain is not as bad as it was years ago. The person that had them 8 years and all that pain probably had them in the 1970's or something. It's not the same now.
don't worry about it, and don't go around trying to hide them and not smiling smushing up your face, people who smile look better than people who don't braces or not. Most of the time it doesn't matter at all. People don't notice like you think they do. Most of the time they don't. it's YOU that notices. Just be yourself, be confident - be thankful. There are people who have horrid looking teeth that wish they had enough money to get them fixed, so if you have that opprotunity that's a good thing. Me, I never had the money and things messed up pretty bad. I wish I could have had it done.

It doesn't hurt, really. It's just very uncomfortable. Have you ever clenched your teeth for a long time in your sleep, and then wake up with your teeth feeling all strange? It's a lot like that.
Usually before your orthodontist puts your braces on, you'll have to get x-rays and some dental molds done. Nothing major. Sometimes they'll take pictures for reference; I liked that. The before and after pictures are amazing!

No, apparently it doesn't hurt at all! I am getting braces soon and my brothers and friends who have had braces say that there is a little tool that sucks the moisture out of your mouth at the beginning and that hurts a little bit but the glue they use doesn;t hurt at all!
anyway, you won;t get them today. you probably won't get them for ages is you are asking for them. i had to just wait till the dentist decided i need them.

I wore braces for about 3 years when I was younger. The only time it really ached was when the wires were tightened. It's not the most excruciating pain, though, but ibuprofen helps relieve it.
The dentist will send you to an orthodontist if you need braces.
Good luck!

I wore braces for 8 years. I had them in 1985 so times have changed hopefully.
I still remember when I got mine on, they HURT!
It wasn't the putting them on the teeth, it wasn't the little o's they put on each bracket to hold the wire to the bracket, it was when they tightened the wires.
It was so painful I couldn't deal with chewing for a while.
But this appointment you have, won't be putting them on. You need to get molds and xrays of your teeth done first.

I just got my braces off - after 1.5 yrs.
They don't hurt at all, only when you get them first put on, and that's like an hour later, just a dull ache that gets sorted with ibuprofen. Also, for the first few days it can ache, but soon its fine. After you get them tightened they hurt a bit, but that soon goes away. They are so worth it!!!
I dunno if ure in the US or UK. If ure in the UK, like me, then ure dentist will take a mould from ure teeth using like green playdough(!), then either refer you to an orthodontist, who actually works with you throughout ure treatment, or she will say that ure teeth are fine. If ure in the US, i dunno what will happen.
If ure UK, again, it is quite unlikely ull get them free unless your teeth are quite bad, I dunno if money is a problem for you, but the NHS (National Health Service) has recently tightened the borderlines which decide who can have braces free or not.
Hope this helps, talk to ure dentist too, she will explain a lot more!
