try to book as far in advance as possible
other than that - eurostar and then a connection

Its pretty cheap to take the ferry from Harwich to the Hook and then the train. You don't say whether you are driving or foot passenger also when you are travelling as these factors will influence the cost.

Euro lines bus from Victoria coach station, easy and not expensive.

Flying is much too expensive! Or take the Eurostar train also not cheap.

Cheapest is the bus, Eurolines, but it is not popular, not even by the people who use it:

Flying is nearly as cheap, if you are early enough or have a lot of luck, I think easyjet is the best choice between London and Amsterdam:
