You could possibly have a mild virus, and the body's first response is to raise the body temperature. It interferes with the virus' ability to replicate, while your body cells can function quite easily. A temperature is an indication that there is an infection of some sort, some where in your body. If you are also feeling slightly out of sorts, then it's probably just a virus. They typically shown improvement in 7-10 days, but can last as long as two weeks. As long as you are drinking plenty of fluids and otherwise not having any problems, you really don't need to do anything to lower it and it would be defeating your bodies own efforts. If you are bothered by it, or worried, then you would probably do better to make an appointment to see your doctor for a full exam to find out exactly why you have the fever. And for future reference, you don't really want to lower a fever in an adult until it gets to 40 or more. Then you do it with a combination of acetominaphen and aspirin, or ibuprofen- alternating them every two hours to keep the temperature below 40. Otherwise, as I said, a little fever is not a bad thing, it's actually a very smart immune response and the best way to keep a virus or bacteria in check.

You can try using things like Tylenol and also cool compresses (like a wet, cool face towel), as well as an ice pack or ice bag (if you have one).

Because of how long the fever has been going on I would also recommend checking with your doctor to see what they say.

Hi there. You need to see your doctor. A fever of 101.4 can be from many causes. You need to be evaluated by a physician. Don't just cover up your fever with medication, find out WHY you have it.
