A most interesting historical picture!!

No doubt this picture was drawn (or influenced by if not) drawn the Japanese occupation of Singapore during World War 2. As for the meaning, it follows the chain of authority down from the higher ranking Japanese officer to the lowly Singaporean citizen. I say "lowly" because that is what his status would have been in Singapore under Japanese occupation.

The Japanese soldiers are in picture 1 (both are Japanese), picture 2 (both are Japanese), picture 3 (the Japanese soldier is on the right wearing a uniform), and in picture 4 the lowly Singaporean citizen stands by himself, as he has no one to slap (i.e - He has no power or authority to slap anyone).

Thanks for digging up this cartoon and letting us see!

Since go24 has take karate option,

I could say how people react when they are angry or frustrated. The boss smacked his employee. The employee smacked his sub-ordinate, the subordinate could do nothing, so he was angry, and when his son bothered him at home, he beat his son to get rid of all that frustration. But the child, who's the smallest fish in the pond has noone to take his anger out on, which is why there isa question mark in 4th picture.
