We all know it is immoral. They also know that. Their clients know that. So why does this trade persist?

Without attempting to rationalize it, it is probably a combination of poverty and laziness. A poor person can earn sums the hard way, but these people probably feel it is easier to sell their bodies instead.

July 31: I see lots of answers saying let us not judge them. I do not judge any person. An opinion about a specific action does not extend to the whole person. Like, I can love a criminal as a person, and even help in the reform process. I believe that all men are created to be good, but circumstances are not the same. Yet, all of these does not take away the fact that the act of selling one's body is immoral.

Sad.

I find what they do more "ammoral" than immoral. Because it is true that there is a tendency for us to let morality take a backseat when survival is in question (shock of shockers, I actually agree with what Well just said!). Most people who do this are desperate and know of no other way to support themselves and their families.

Some are aware of the dangers. And based on an interview I had done with some of them back in college, a lot do not enjoy it. But eventually the task becomes nothing but a job like what other people do, and all the body parts seem to be as un-seductive as a person's hand.

I actually feel a bit sad for them, because it is the only way they know how to live, and are apparently victims of the prevailing poverty. The sex workers are in a way employees, but are regarded with such disdain because of the nature of their work.

I still believe that we do not have the right to judge them so harshly, as what they do, they do out of need, and not want.

Most find the practice of prostitution as the easiest means of survival. Not all, but most prostitutes are poor uneducated people who have no other skills and are forced or lured into the world of prostitution by other people who wish to profit from their misfortune.
You should never judge another person, for you have no way of knowing what events led them to a life of prostitution. People will do almost anything in desperation to feed and house themselves and their families. I do not agree with prostitution, however, I would never look down on someone who is a prostitute because I know that these people are only trying to survive the best way they know how.

i have gotten to know many reasons why some people became callboys & callgirls.

& there are so many reasons, including being forced into it beyond their control, some went into for sheer survival, some where sexually abused as a child and many more in between, but there are some by their own personal choice.

so honestly, if you don't know the reason, its hard to have an opinion. but i do have one for someone who had made it their own choice specially if they are just too lazy to get another job or is just too happy doing what they are doing, & keep on doing it just because. & in that, they have no excuse.

I always wondered why people think differently of those that sell their bodies than those that pay them. The act of prostitution requires a seller and a buyer. The seller is often poor and female. The buyer is often male and may be rich. But they are both participants. Maybe the prostitute has few if any options and is trying to make enough money to live, feed her children, or maybe go to school. But such rationales cannot be used on the buyer of such services.

So what can you say to such people? How about “Be safe.”

Poverty is main reason. they are mostly no skills to apply, no academic degree, no money to begin a trade or business. Some change when they have enough money to begin something. Some already enjoy it for a living or still hoping that somebody will lift them or take them out of that darkness.

For me it's just ok for them to use their body for earning the living cause it's their own body , but I'm sad that their future husbands will not have a good honeymoon with them (joke) , seriously they will be deverginized by peoples whom they don't love , that means they won't be taken seriously by their future husbands , they will be treated by their husbands as a sex material.

I agree with Allan, whatever reason they have, we have no right to judge them.

Poverty is the major though not always the reason. Same like Windblown, I know from my own collegiate research that reasons can be as petty as they enjoyed it. Not necessarily being nymphos.

we cannot justly say that what they are doing is immoral. Who are we to judge? People will rationalize why they did this or why they did that. It can be economics, low self-esteem, easiest way to earn a living etc. etc. but the bottom line is we cannot judge them, lest we be judged.

Practically all people who resort to these means to make a living do so out of desperation, in order to feed themselves and their respective families.

From a religious standpoint, it may be "immoral" but morality takes a back seat to survival--always.
