Influence is what we desire to get, and since we don't really like sending poeple to be in harm's way, we send ca$$$H. We do have a say in how we vote for President - the President has control over the State department and his direction dictates how the majority of our funds are spent. A lot of other funds are in the defense appropriations bill, which sets military spending and has to be passed by all three parts - House, Senate and signed by the Prez. Thsi is not a democracy, friend. It is better than that: it is a REPRESENTATIVE democracy. So we get what we elected them to give us.
