Snow skiing in Jackson Wyoming is beautiful on Christmas morning. The Tetons are a wonderful place.

If you do not know how to ski, drive up the road to Yellowstone National Park and watch the Buffalo and Old Faithful Geyser.

The park used to let you snowmobile, I do not know if it has been banned or not. If it hasn't, then that is great fun too.

Hi,

If i stay in minnesota over christmas, i hear there is a good chance of snow; but what towns/villages etc are likely candidates? Am I right to assume the further north, the greater the chances of snow? I would like some nice scenery,

It depends on what you like for outdoor recreations. North Idaho, Coeur d' Alene, offers milder winters with a good deal of snow. It also offers the mountains and tons of fishing opportunities. There is a beach in CDA and in Sandpoint. The nice thing about CDA, Idaho is it;s close proximity to Spokane, Washington.
If you want a good economy, lots of opportunity and lots of outdoor activities, CDA is a great choice. In Montana, the economy is "iffY" at best.

I would say your best guess is anywhere around Lake Superior - Duluth, Lutsen, Grand Marais, Two Harbors. They have the best ski resorts in the midwest at reasonable prices. It's a great area and popular most times of the year. The cities is hit or miss and very unpredictable Sept-Dec, although you're pretty much guaranteed a serious cold spell Jan-Feb.

BUILDING AN IGLOO (1)
Provided temperatures remain below freezing, constructing snow shelters is relatively easy. Sheltering from the wind is the first priority, since the wind can drastically decrease the air temperature.

BUILDING AN IGLOO (2)
Provided temperatures remain below 32 degrees F, constructing snow shelters is relatively easy.

BUILDING A SNOW CAVE
A snow cave can mean the difference between life and death during a storm, but digging one requires not just know-how but the right conditions.

HOW TO BUILD AN IGLOO
Building an igloo is easy and fun. An igloo is a great place to spend the night on a small expedition in the mountains. It is much warmer than a tent, and can be built just about anywhere.
