Is the very depths of my soul so twisted and demented that I cannot feel disgust.

because maybe you have been exposed to violent stuff on TV early in life. that's the problem with this generation. they are so used to the blood and gore that they don't even raise an eyebrow when they see it. you would be sick and twisted IF you like seeing the blood and gore. being not disturbed by it is totally different from liking it.

You're not sick or twisted . . . .

It's "sensory overload".

You've been desensitized by the repeated and gradually increasing nature of the violence on T.V. shows, movies, video games, news reports, etc.

As different companies compete for the consumers' dollar, they've been trying to out-do each other in the graphic nature of their content and we, the consumers, have been emotionally short-circuited by the constant bombardment of violent and graphic images they present.

That's also why the images we're presented with by "charities" competing for the viewers' dollar are becoming more and more graphic of poverty and disease.

The end result is that more and more of us are feeling as numb to others' pain and tragedy as you are.

Antidote: switch off the T.V., stop playing video games, forget about the news ( you can't stop the violence in the world yourself anyway . . .), and start exposing yourself to POSITIVE input. Read good books, rent good movies ( lots of comedy helps), and GET OUT OF THE HOUSE MORE !

I don't know where you live, but try to get to parks, the beach, the mountains, etc. Nature's a great healer . . .

Good luck ! :-)

Like firemen, police,EM T's I work in it every day.
It is not that I have become desensitized, I can throw up, cry, and be heart broken with the best of them. But I am of no use to anyone if I cannot function.
I have to stay focused, I may get sick later, but I will, and do my job....Over the years I have just taken a big breath, set myself straight to the task at hand, and get in there, and do it.
Many of these other answers are correct, about the video games, but trust me, that is not real life....thank you

some people are born that way and others just become desensitized. i work in a jail and seeing stuff like that all the time kinda makes you used to it.

it is just red meat at some point.

Lets say there was a car wreck and you saw this. if you rolled the body over and it was your mother how would you feel?

Lack of empathy. A word not often used these days.
