He was just "command sponsored" by the US Military, and were making arrangements for him to come live with us in Japan. Right now hes with family in the Philippines.

To clarify some confusion. I do not need a passport. Immigration in Japan looks at my military and ID and my orders, and I am good to go. I wonder if this extends to my son.

YES, he does every person traveling to a foreign country is required to have a passport as a means of identification. Nobody is exempt from this. Eventhough he is command sponsored by the US Military.

My daughter traveled with us when she was about that age. A passport will be required - - - photos and all. The only difference is that the signature on the passport is that of the legal guardian.

All ordinary travelersl require a passport. I remember the only ones who traveled the seas and did not have passports were the boat people from Vietnam. yet, they were eventually processed, and issued passports before they re-settled in the USA.

Yes, seems so. Please check with your countries rules for that as they are not all the same in all of them.
