A friend of mine told me his secret to spring cleaning....."if you haven't used it in the past year, you don't need it." So whenever I clean out a closet, etc. I think of him and ask myself "Have I used it in the past year?" Seems to work for me!

Am a hoarder too, its hard for me to just throw away stuff, am always thinking I might need it again later on and keep it away, even though for years I may not use it. I hate throwing away stuff, though I prefer giving it to someone who needs it and will make use of it. But I find sometimes I overdo the hoarding stuff like keeping gift wrapping papers received from others. Luckily my husband is the other way around. He throw aways everything thats not required. But ofcourse he cannot do that when am around, so he chooses a time when am out of the house to get things organized.

my aunt is a hoarder. she has a house of alot of things worth a lot of money but she has a lot of junk too. you can maybe make it thru the lil paths she has to and from rooms.
when you get to a point you can admit it, as you have, and want to do something about it you might want to call a got junk removal place. or goodwill to send ppl out out take it away. donating to charity is a great way to remove things that are still usable. you get a tax credit at the end of the year too.
see if you have family or friends or maybe a church group can help you clean it out. maybe it would be best if you weren't home when they do it so you can't try to keep it all.
oh you can see about getting on that show on tv where they come clear out the clutter and make over your house. sorry at 5 am i can't remember the name. it's along the lines of while you were out and trading spaces... mind is blank to name

I am a recovering hoarder. 2 years ago I took drastic action and now am clutter sober! I had a month-long garage sale (appointments required) and what didn't sell was donated to charity. I just prepared my mind for the shock of losing my antique collections and craft supplies that I loved and what hadn't been used in one year got sold. I didn't make much $$ but I can now park my car in my garage!

My foster mother was a hoarder, she put my foster father in the poor house with all of her spending. When she died, I was so angry I just wanted to bury her with all that crap! I know that sounds cold hearted, but she destroyed the mans life!!
