Well you could divide by 5, because 20% is one-fifth of 100%

Another way is to find out what 1% would be .... so you would divide 2500 by 100 = 25 (thats one percent)

then multiply by 20 (to find out what twenty percent would be)

25 x 20 = 500

The way I usually calculate 20% mentally (like when I'm leaving a tip at a restaurant) is to take it as twice of 10%. Finding 10% is easy: just slide the decimal one place to the left (250.0, which is 250). Now just double it to get 20% (500).

Remember that % means 'per hundred'.
To avoid confusion, multiply the number by 20/100. That is, multiply by twenty first; then divide by 100.
2500X20 = 50000
50000/100=500

write down this:

20 / 100 = x / 2500, only on paper make it top-bottom

multiply diagonally and you get 100x = 50000

divide both sides by 100 and you get x=500

Easiest. 10% of 2500 is 250. so 20% is x2 of 10%. 250x2= 500
