In a dictatorship where the sick are killed and everyone is forced to work.

In a free capitalistic society there is a requirement for a precentage of people to be poor. This is factored in economics projections. This is the result of human nature for those who are unwilling to work or unable due to mental and physical disibilities.

Well as far as being related to physics you could say that unemployment is related to work and that work is a major concept in physics.

As to economic theory and this sort of nonesense, whatever is assumed for these models are just assumptions and not based on some principle of nature that is unalterable. There is no reason why you can not have full employment other than the imperfect nature of human beings in the first place.

Now as to the technical side of measuring unemployment. This is how the government does it: "Persons are classified as unemployed if they do not have a job, have actively looked for work in the prior 4 weeks, and are currently available for work. "

So there can be thousands of unemployed who are NOT classified as such by the government so it can be easy to have zero unemployment by just having people stop looking for work. Your unemployment statistic would then go down to zero. I am not sure why this particular method was chosen other than to obfuscate the true issue of how many unemployed there really are.

Check out the source, right from the Department of Labor.
