The speed of light in a vacuum is exactly 299 792 458 m/s (fixed by definition). Although this quantity is sometimes referred to as the "velocity of light", the word velocity refers to a vector quantity, which has a direction (and speed refers to the magnitude of the velocity vector).

You can circle the circumfrence of the earth 9 times a second at the speed of light !

Ohh and for the answer above it is very possible to travel faster then light there have been many experiments now that prove it is possible for a wave to go faster then light in a vacuum !

Everyone gave you the math but here is the short answer.

The speed of light is how fast light travels in a vacuum such as space. It is a constant and does not vary and in theory nothing in the universe can move faster than light.

It's about 186000 miles per second, or 300,000,000 meters per second.

Due to bizarre relativistic effects, you can never reach or exceed this speed. Also, no matter how fast you're going, light will always seem to be traveling away from you at the same speed.
