Since they're bringing back the Camaro, will they be bringing back the Firebird/Trans Am? Anyone heard any news?

As it stands there will be a Pontiac counterpart to the new Camaro, with the same engines and basic layout (RWD 2+2 coupe) sometime around 2010.

It's looking like that will be a GTO, not a Firebird, but I've seen very few people outside of GM that support that direction.

As big as GM is, they're surely considering both alternatives. Only time will tell if they make the right choice.

I've read snippets and heard rumors hear and there that the Firebird/TA's future depends on the success of the new Zeta platform. That link in the last answer kind of confirms this to me. I believe that it depends on the success of the Camaro and the G8. If those are huge sellers, like GM thinks they will be, I believe that we will see a new Pontiac muscle car appear, possibly with the legendary Firebird and Trans Am badges. I'm sure many people, like myself, are dying to see the Phoenix rise again from the ashes.

GM, notably Bob Lutz, has stated with total clarity, every way possible, that there will be no new Firebird. So you should assume not.

Even if there was, it would look like a 2010 Pontiac, so you wouldn't want one. People who want a new Firebird want it to look like the Camaro, or even better, and there's no way they're going to do that. Pontiacs look like jelly beans, and that's just all there is to it.

Yes, as a matter a fact I have cought some news on this subject. Check out the Car and Driver link below. Their saying 2010 will be the date the Firebird/TransAm takes over for the Goat(GTO).

Yes but one more year to wait. I wonder that the Detroit show car will look like on 8" wide rims and 235/45/18 tires? and under the hood an LS-2 just like mine in the 2006 GTO. Not the chromed up show car no wires showing motor.
