The filmmaker was making a joke - after all, no one is above being made fun of in the Simpsons.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but he's making fun of people seeing t.v shows that are made into movies because watching the t.v show is free while you have to pay to see the movie. Basically they're making fun of anyone seeing the Simpsons movie.

It was a joke on the audiences behalf, saying that even though the simpsons is free on our television sets at home were come to a theater and paying money to see the same show.

the people in the theater with him were watching itchy & scratchy which they can wantch on television for free, basically making fun of people paying to watch the simpsons movie when they can watch the simpsons show on telelvision for free

ACTUALLY NOT--- did you know that you do not have to pay cable or satellite to view tv programs...TRUE!!!!!!!!!!
this is what he was referring to---much of the population PAYS to watch TV...NOT ME !!!!!!!!!!!
