the kid had just came off of sixth sense so my expectation were high. the movie was ok, definitely not dvd worthy. i might catch a few minutes if it comes on regular tv but that's about it.

I loved the film, but I can also understand why people didn't like it.

Far starters, I think it really puts the audience through a lot emotionally. It generally goes back and forth between warm love sequences, horror, and depression. Some folks don't like getting jerked around like that, and I was exhausted at the end.

Also, you have to consider that the film was originally Kubrick's baby, and while Spielberg stated he knew how Kubrick would've directed, there are some obvious "Spielbergian" heavy sequences that a lot of Kubrick fans didn't approve of. I didn't care, having never seen any of his films.

Musically, the film is brilliant. I think it's one of John William's best scores.

So again, I loved the film, but I try to see it from other people's point of view.

It's an interesting film in the fact that there doesn't (afaik) appear to be any middle-ground with the film. Either you loved it, or you hated it.

I bawled like a baby, and bought the soundtrack right after the movie ended.

Others didn't cry at all, and didn't like it.

*shrug*

Good question about one of my favorite movies. For me it was about eternal hope and a very big wish. It was a modern version of Pinocchio. Like Pinocchio, he wanted to be a real boy and through the passage of time, humans ceased to exist and he was the only one on earth who was even close to being human. The beautiful thing was that his big wish, through unimaginable hoping and waiting...his wish did come true. I hope he went to heaven, if there was such a place for his kind...but right then, with his mother...he was in heaven.

It actually pissed me off especially when the kid came back home and the little robot boy was kicked to the curb and he was so hurt and in the end it was like life was just hopeless and nothing. I hated it actually. worse thing Spielberg ever did.
