Why does everyone hate the Yankees?

Obviously everyone does not hate the Yankees because they are a team that has a large fan support base both in New York and elsewhere. You will see a large vocal group of fans say they hate the Yankees because the Yankees have probably beaten there favorite team over the years and the Yankees are winners, and there are many people out their that like to tear down a winner.

Part of it has to do with winning but I don't think it's jealousy. The Yankees are both good and bad for baseball. The high team payroll they can afford being in the largest market in the league puts small market teams like the Pirates and Kansas City at a perpetual disadvantage, which in turn I think has a negative effect on the game in general.
I'll use a hypothetical situation to illustrate my point. Taken to the extreme, lets say all the good players gravitate to the largest markets (New York, LA, Boston, Chicago). None of the other teams would have a chance to contend with these markets so they start losing massive amounts of money. Fan interest all over the league would come to an end and all that would be left would be a small handful of 5 or 6 teams competing with each other year after year. That would make for an extremely uninteresting and boring league.
Personally I don't really like a team that likes to buy the World Series championship. A team that does that is uninteresting to me.

Im a Yankees fan, I think the reason that people hate the Yankees because they are rich and they always sign the best people in the MLB. They get mad that the players they used to play for the team they like go to the Yankees.

Sure there's a certain amount of jealousy and envy. Who wouldn't want their team to have an owner that cares that much about winning and is willing to do whatever it takes? There are bragging rights that come with being able to beat the Yankees that you don't get from beating other teams. For a fan whether you're rooting for the Yankees or their opponent, you're rooting for someone, it's a game that gets your attention like no other match up in baseball. I have tremendous respect for the Yankee organisation.

i don't hate the yankees , but some people think that because they're the yankees and because they won 26 world series titles everybodies suppose to lay down for them . the other thing is some people are going crazy because the yankees are having a bad year . they're human , they can't win it every year !!!

i dont hate the yankees- i LOVE the yankees and by love i mean LOVE diehard love the yankees!!! each and everyone of them (especially jeter... and damon...and posada...and cano...and melky...and rivera...omg someone stop me before i put down the whole roster!!!!!) anyway, point is I LOVE THE YANKEES

its yankee envy (like it was said before) and people dont know what to say to 26 WORLD SERIES when their team has like six (boston).

anyway, they cant handle the greatness, so they choose to be losers and hate the yankees. GOOO YANKEES!!!!!!

Because the Yankees have dominated for so many years while other fans of other teams have waited for so long to win.

The Yankees still have the most amount of fans in professional sports teams.

And when you are successful you are not going to please everybody.

People make fun of California because they wish that where they lived was 1/2 as nice.
People hate the Yankees because they wish their team were as good.
People are like that. Why baseball is the only sport where winning is bad, I'll never know.
