Epitaph, is what you are looking for! (there are some famous last lines, reflecting humour, courage: like "Die? That's the last thing I want to do!" from a defiant General, known to be a strong personality in his time!)

epigraph ??? That can be used for buildings and what not too... I don't know about just tombstones
