Take a look with the reality of Global Warming:

I think because of our country is an Archipelago we are dealing with a wide coverage area and the government needs to have at least a $ BILLION $ to save our land.

Mutya P, yes planting trees can help but my concerned is Global Warming is a Time Bomb.

We can't wait for 5 or 10 years for those trees to grow.

I think we *do* need to deal with it. The question could be *how* to deal with it. The nation is poor, and we would not have enough funds to use for research on the best ways to deal with Global warming. Even if we do get good strategies, we may not have enough money to act on the plans...

And BUCKY... *you* go to hell.

Global warming is a global issue that should be the priority of international private environmental organizations, in cooperation with all national governments in the free world. I don't think that the burden of cost should be shouldered by the Phil. government alone.

The Philippine government, and ALL governments, and ALL the people on this planet need to deal with global warming. In fact, it is something we need to deal with, whether we like it or not. There is no escaping its effects.

I am afraid there is no strategy by the government to address this. But let us all help in our own way, like avoiding use of aerosols, etc.

global warming should be a concern for everybody here on earth. although we have passed laws to protect our environment and prevent global warming, it is unfortunate that these are laws without teeth. let us look closely at our clean air act. if every provisions of the law would be implemented, no buses could ply the streets of manila. poverty and survival would take precedence over measures on global warming.**

Oh, since the population nowadays is 82M, the government must instruct every Filipino to plant 2 or 3 seedlings every month. And prevent loggers to cut down trees, I am sure, our country will be saved.

Global Warming is certainly a scary scenario. A scenario that needs to be acted upon by all Governments and all people of the world.
We have to cut down on our Greenhouse gas emissions before it is too late.

Our greenhouse gas emissions come mostly from energy use. These are driven largely by economic growth, fuel used for electricity generation, and weather patterns affecting heating and cooling needs. Energy-related carbon dioxide emissions, resulting from petroleum and natural gas, represent 82 percent of total U.S. human-made greenhouse gas emissions.

What are greenhouse gases?
Greenhouse gases are a natural part of the atmosphere. It is the increase in the amounts of these gases through human activity that causes global warming. Human activity such as land clearing and burning fossil fuels have increased the concentration of these gases. Humans have had most impact on the enhanced greenhouse effect through increases in the amounts of carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide.

Water vapour
Water vapour is the most important greenhouse gas, but human activity has little direct impact on the amount in the atmosphere.

Carbon dioxide (CO2)
The amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is about 30% higher now than 200 years ago. The main causes of this increase are:

the burning of fossil fuels such as oil, coal and natural gas to create energy to make electricity and to produce fuel for transport, and
the clearing and burning of vegetation.
This gas is the biggest contributor to the enhanced greenhouse effect (about 70%)

Methane (CH4)
The amount of methane in the atmosphere is about 145% higher now than 200 years ago. The main causes of this increase are:

digestive processes of cattle and sheep (ie their burps!)
cultivation of rice
escape of natural gas
decomposing waste in garbage dumps or landfills.
This gas is the second biggest contributor to the enhanced greenhouse effect (about 20%)

Nitrous oxide (N2O)
The amount of nitrous oxide in the atmosphere is about 15% higher now than 200 years ago. The main causes of this increase are:

burning of vegetation
emissions from industries
the effects of agriculture on the soil (using nitrogenous fertilisers)
Halocarbons
These greenhouse gases have been reduced since the phasing out of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) to protect the ozone layer. However, other halocarbons effecting the atmosphere include perfluorocarbons (PFCs) emitted during aluminium production.

Will any Government do anything about these emissions. I seriously doubt it. Can you picture the US President being brave enough to outlaw autmobiles or the various Asian leaders outlawing the growing of rice or leaders of coal producing countries such as Australia ceasing production.

yes...let's just ride the bicycle to work.. hehehe..
but seriously, it's not enough that they say we report smoke belching..they're not even serious about it! i mean i've seen MMDA trucks emitting coal black smoke!
this is a very serious issue that could shut alot of factories down due to illegal dumping of toxic wastes... it's just sad that here in the philippines.. environmental issues are being put aside. it's the non-government sects are those who are doing something about it.
