It depends a lot on my mood, and on what I would most like to dream about while I sleep. I found out a funny thing some time ago--if I want to have an exciting dream about being a WWII spy, I have only to listen to Wagner while going to sleep, and I will probably get my wish. Mozart usually places me squarely in Vienna, dressed in a satin ball gown, etc., etc... If I want to have a more modern dream, I set the stage with more modern music, like The Cure--lots of dreamy sleepy music to choose from in their collected works. It really just depends on what I want to dream about. Tonight, I am hoping to continue a series of strange dreams I have been having, so I imagine I will listen to Ravel (though not Bolero, which makes me laugh), as that has brought on these strange dreams the last few nights.
Night, Miss Sunny.

Enya is good. I love classical and I find myself listening to it too closely.
There is a style of music called 'space music'. You can hear it on Music From the Hearts of Space, a program that plays on NPR stations. It is not really even music, just soft sounds that make no sense and go nowhere. Sort of like Enya.
Also my sweetie bought a set of CDs that are of nature sounds. Surf on a beach, rainfall in a forest with some thunder here and there. They are very calming and relaxing and I find they work best.

The sound of my husband's breathing in the bed beside me every night. I have heard it for over 26 years and I do not sleep well without it.
It may not be music to anyone else, but it is to me.

I really like nana's answer.
I feel the same way. Just the quiet of the house and hearing my son and my husband sleeping soundly. If my husband's not asleep yet, he'll have talk radio on, and we'll be drift off to that.

sure. I pay attention to classical or new age, each so often celtic. I pay attention to "ehoes" or "track from the hearts of area" on weekends, classical the remainder of the nights, different than each so often I positioned on CDs. the different night it replaced into Ennya- an afternoon without rain.

Currently it' s Yo-Yo Ma's rendition of several classic Ennio Morricone soundtrack pieces. It's gorgeously composed and rendered by two musical heavyweights.

Prior to that it was Russian Choral music, with some pieces written by Rachmaninoff.
