The Indus valley civilization (represented by the sites of Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa) was one of the four great river valley areas of early great civilizations in the Old World. Two of the three continents (Africa, Asia, and Europe) of the Old World (Asia and Africa) possessed river valleys that gave rise to great civilizations: the Yellow River Valley in China, the Indus River Valley in India, the Tigris and Euphrates River Valleys in what is now Iraq, and the Nile River Valley in Egypt (Africa).
