Well if you can hear the fans running, then you know that the powersupply is getting power into the motherboard, and the motherboard is giving power out to the fans.
So it could either be your hard drive or your cpu.
Something simular happened to me, i was stupid and took my heatsink out, and the CPU was attached to it, so i just put it back in and it didnt work.
Later i figured the CPU needed to be placed in before hand, then an arch cliped down, then use thermal paste again to stick the heatsink.
Just check all connections, take out everything thats not nessercery, e.g video card, optical drives, so you can really find out where the problem is.
Then try and have a look at the things, and dont worry, computer components aint that fragile.. they'll take some weight.

Two possible problem,
1. powersupply(overheat), - you can try power cycle first, unplug all cable from the power outlet, then push and hold the power button for 15 secs. replug the cable and try to turn in on, if that does'nt work, give it about 1 hour to completely remove the heat of your cpu, then try it once again, if that does'nt work, #2 is the possible problem
2. or lack of memory(needs to upgrade your memorycard), you can also check your internet card if you're using dial-up.

Try another power supply. First make sure that the power supply connector on the main board has not come loose.

1. check your power supply, i mean the one inside your cpu that give power to all equipment inside.
2. if that thing work, then check all connection. pull out the cable clean it up & plug in it again
3. check the ram if it's ok then your motherboard has been fried up
