I live right up the New South Wales coast so can't answer from experience but check the link below - gumtree is a great site and will give you lots of examples. Or if you want to look at agents' listings try www.domain.com.au .

As previously said, this questions depends on alot of things, such as where in Melbourne you want to live, whether you have a car, how often you are at home (for bills sake), how much you eat, and how much you spend on leisure- such as clothing, technology, holidays, nights on the town, hairdressers... the list goes on.
Generally speaking- if you wanted to live close to the city, say in Carlton your looking at $300 for a one br appartment. Say food costs you $100pw, bills (including mobile and internet) costs you around $100 pw and then there's transport ($30 pw) and leisure (around $20 for a reteraunt meal and $4 for a beer) so say $70.
Howvere you might want to consider living in an outer suburb like Craigeburn- not the most coulorfull area, but rent could cost you only $120 pw, but transport would be higher.
My VERY rough estimate is around $600 pw between you both to feel comfortable, however if you like shopping it could be more, or if your on a budget it could be less.
Try www.domain.com.au or www.realestate.com.au for housing prices.

It will depend on so many things, and you have not given enough information. Which suburb will you try for, do you have expensive tastes, do you go out a lot, do you have children ( they will be expensive no matter where you choose to live ) do you drive, do you want to study. I could go on and on before I could even start to give you a guesstimate of the costs.
How about you narrow the field a little so someone can help you?
