With my computer on all day, I leave the monitor on if I am going to leave for a 10-15 minute break, but if I will be away for an hour or more, I turn the monitor off. If I am going out for a couple of hours, I shutdown.

What OS are you using?
Window XP do had a setting that can make the monitor to go to sleep mode, screen turn off.
But if you off the main of the monitor that should be no problem, same like the OS setting.
For LCD if not mistake will be the same too.
What is the power of your LCD? More then a monitor?

you can turn the monitor off without damaging anything. if you leave the LCD on, without a screensaver, however, for an extended amount of time, it will cause screen burn in. bad. but it will be fine turining it off. you can even set the computer to turn it all by itself.

Yes it is safe to do that. Dont worry because most people do that to save money on their electricity bills.

the less its on, the longer itll last. in power settings in control panel you can set it to automatically turn off after so many minutes.
