I'm tired of being discriminated against for being black, female, & @ the worst, DISABLED. I hate when so many doors are closed on opportunities that I wanted to have. I can't live a normal life. I want a job but no one wants to hire me, & I have a college degree. When I go looking for a job, the "employer" just laughs in my face & call me crazy. Why am I never good enough?

Yes. I'm morbidly obese, and most people assume it's just my own fault. Teenagers especially can be very cruel.

For the information of those who believe it really is my own fault, I will acknowledge that it is PARTLY my own fault. But genetics has much to do with it, as does compulsive behavior which is conditioned at an early enough age that controlling it is a lifelong struggle. Besides, even if I am sticking to a very careful diet today, it takes real time to lose it. And it takes exercise, which since I have arthritis, is downright painful.

I am also annoyed by the fact that the same people who condemn me because "it's my own fault" have compassion for a person in a wheelchair who had the car accident because he was drunk. I had a friend in a chair who fell asleep at the wheel of a car and damaged his spine. He did not understand why I was not accorded the same deference he was. I said it's because the fashion nowadays is to starve yourself, and so the fashionable think I got this way on hot fudge sundaes, not a normal diet with lousy genetics.

I deal with it one day at a time, just like an alcoholic. But I get mighty tired of walking into an office and there are no chairs except ones with arms that are too narrow for me. Can you say "reasonable accommodation"?

First of all, you are good enough. Hold your head up and speak out to those rude people.

I am a white woman and have experienced job discrimination also. Just a few examples:

I was told I was not hired as a computer programmer because I was a woman. Well, I did eventually get hired and then proceeded to work my way up the Corporate ladder.

I was told my salary would never be more than a man's, but when I retired I was making a lot more than most of the men in similar assignments.

How did I do it? Positive Thinking and Being Tenacious. Never give up.

Believe that you can, and you will achieve your dreams.

I think everybody is to some point for instance..i get discriminated against everyday.....I am a white male married heterosexual....so any opinion i have i must keep to myself due to i might offend someone...i have to pay higher taxes than singles...i cant receive help from a lot of different government organizations and I could go on and on.
As I am sure everybody else could say things how they are, but the point is not to let it bother you

well i wouldnt say a lot, but i am somewhat shunned for my partial nationality as a North Korean. People associate me with Kim Jong Il and communism and things of that nature. Which i think is stupid because there is no way I could be a commie in America. but since im also part greek, people think that i could be gay as a societal trait....which The Romans were the gay people, The Greeks were not as bad, but they had gay people nonetheless. but im not gay...the best thing to do is to just ignore them and move on...keep trying and dont give up

I have a hot news flash for you:
***We all have doors close in our face.
***We all are disciminated against for something.
***We all have obstacles we could choose to have as excuse for not forging ahead. Life is not easy.

I recommend to be more objective about your situation. Perhaps you are going after the wrong jobs and it sounds like you might be carrying a chip on your shoulder. As soon as you get rid of this chip, you will be amazed at the positive turns and outcomes your life will take!

I want to first make a comment about your race. I am a recruiter, and I have more clients request black men or women than any other race. I have to tell them that I can't discriminate on their behalf, and I will bring them the most qualified candidates matching the required qualifications on the job description. This usually nips this issue in the bud. Now, I know that race discrimination is a real thing, but you can use your race as a positive for your getting a job because big, big companies often have diversity requriements so with you being a black, female, well you actually have an advantage. Use it wisely. Plus, I will say this, I have been a hiring manager before in a company where a black woman was kept on even though she seriously needed to be terminated due to the # of absenses, but my boss did not want to bother with it b/c she was afraid she would sue the company even though we had documentation of her days out (which was on average four times+ a month). We would doc her pay, but we did nothing else. So, because of her race, she was a protected employee.

Next your disability. I was referred an African Amercian women last month who had a tremendous speech impediment. She worked in the mailroom of some company, and she had just finished her college degree, so she wanted a better job. She was trying to get a job as an Executive Assistant, and she was very distraught because she was continually turned down for interviews once they talked with her on the phone." I was direct with her, and said "You will have issue with getting this type of job because of your speech impediment." Executives are basically looking for "mini-me's", and you will just have to appreciate that it would not make sense to hire a this women with a tremendous speech impediment to do the job of an Executive Assistant. She was going after the wrong job. She did not need to be going after jobs where she would be dealing with the public in any way (on the phone or in person). A buiness owners (large or small) has to put the right people in the right place so respect this.. and ask yourself if you are going after the wrong positions. As for laughing in your face, I'm sorry, but I believe you might be exaggerating on this a bit because this seems way too cruel. Now if you are going after an airline position as an Airline Attendant, and you are in a wheel chair then perhaps there is a chuckle becuase that really would not make sense. You have to be realistic about what job you can really do.

Now for the female part. HOLD UP ON THAT ONE. Sales Managers LOVE to hire women. Marketing Directors LOVE to hire women. As for other areas, such as Accounting and Finance, well they love to hire women in those as well. Why? Because women are so detailed oriented on the norm, and women just do very well with sales and marketing (so do men, but women seem to cover the details better which make the boss look better). I have done physician recruiting, executive accounting and finance and executive marketing and sales (as well as par positions for each), and in physician recruiting, well, let me share this with you, it would be a good time to be a female doctor in any speciality. I just can't agree with you on this b/c women are in such demand.

I will keep you in my thoughts to help you overcome your thinking that you are not good enough. You are! You just have not discovered the color of your parachute yet, and you will one day. Stop looking for reasons you have not accomplished what you are looking for and go for what you want. Stumbling blocks will arise all of the time. I recommend the movie: Pursuit of Happyness.

BTW, I use to have a terrible, terribe, terrible lisp - I could not get rid of it. I tried my entire life but it would not go away. I have been made fun of for years. Finally, I have just said "f*ck it" and I overcame it. You can too! I have found that my lisp goes away on teh phone so now as a recuriter (I am mainly on the phone) I found a job that disguieses my weakness.
