Can you name some that come to mind? This includes state and federal government.
This may seem like a stupid question, but are they legally exempt from overseas service?

Matt Blout, governor of Missouri, is a reservist and has seen duty in the Gulf.
Trent Brown of Platte County Missouri, state representative, was wounded in the Persian Gulf while serving in the legislature.

Donald Rumsfield was in the Navy reserve when he was a Congressman.

He had to resign from the Navy reserves when he became Ford's Secretary of Defense.

Then afterwards, he went back in the navy reserves again, untill he retired as a naval capt in 1989.

It's true. But when activated, they don't have to go using a dumb excuse as better serving the country as a politician. Something else, many are on total or partial disability for something like suffering a skin rash.

a number of the congressmena nd senators are reserves....a larger number of state reps serve also...

Its called a loop hole and another reason why I hate them since they are only on the list so they never get called up .
