I'm 17, and interested in acting. I don't have any experience, except school & church plays when I was a kid. (Which they usually cast me in the lead for, because I had a much better memory than most)

Any idea how I would get started?

The first thing you need to do (if you are serious about this) is start your resume. If you aren't sure what a resume is, it's basically a list of all the acting experience you have, whether it be a church or school play, or anything else. So if you haven't yet, right now write down all the stuff you've been in that you can remember. (This can be important as when you get more and more parts, they become harder to keep track of.)
Now, if all you've done is a couple of school and church plays a long time ago, then you obviously need more experience. You have a much better chance of getting into an agency if you already have a nice long resume than if you don't. I would highly recommend you start with theater as something to give you more acting experience/ credits. Community theater is perfect for this. The best (or at least, most talented) actors out there got their start in theater- and if you can master performing live, then you can do anything.
After you have what you consider to be a sufficient amount of acting experience under your belt, that's the time (again, if you really are serious about acting) to look for an agent. Agents are like middle-men. When a company wants to make a commercial/film etc., they tell agencies about it, who in turn notify their talent. Agencies are needed because big companies would have no other way of letting actors know about it. And one of the best parts is, you don't pay them anything. They only get a small percent of what you make from the work they get you.
To join one, you simply call the nearest one in your area and set up an appointment.
Well, sorry my answer was so long, but there's just a lot of information that you should know. Hope this helps!

You are way behind in getting started. You need to get lots of experience in plays. Lots and lots of it. You need to learn that there is much more to being an actor besides acting. Actors spend most of their time trying to get a job. Before getting concerned about that you need to build a resume. Perhaps you should also attend acting school to learn about the profession and the art of acting. But be careful, most acting schools just want your money and will tell you you are wonderful to keep you enrolled in classes which for the most part are going to be a waste of time and money. To succeed as am actor you will need great skill and great beauty or a unique look. So if you want to continue, write me at kencosp
@aol.com I advise young actors for free. I was a film actor for 10 years while I was director of a university theatre program.

well first, school and curch playes are experience! then you'll want to get a manager(they can help you get an agent). they'll ask if you have had any classes, so i suggest taking some. that will only cost you a small fourtune(depending on how many you take) and then get one. they will sometimes help you get an agent, or you can search for one yourself. good luck, and keep your chin up.
