A "coat" is a layer of paint. If you're supposed to apply two coats, it means you paint the room once, let the paint dry, and then paint another layer over it.

When you first paint the entire room with either primer to cover the old color first or you're just using paint. Once you are done painting the room that is one coat. Paint it again and that's two coats. Don't forget to use painters tape where you don't wish to paint. Example----window trim

It means that you have to paint it all twice. A coat is also a layer. So if you need two coats , then you need two layers of paint to get the job done.

Layers aka coats aka spreading.
Basically the guy tells you to paint it over twice - meaning -
Paint it once let it dry out and then go over it again in order to create the finished touch.

coats are layers of paint.
you paint all the walls or what ever you are painting. when dry- takes a few hrs- paint over the 1st coat. it will make the color more even and looks better when finished.

You apply one full covering of the paint to the surface, wait until it drys, then apply another full covering of paint, which would then make it two "coats".
