I despise terrorists beyond reason, but here is what it is and why they do what they do. Terrorism is a very complicated idea that the U.S. is fighting. Terrorists fight using very unconventional methods, such as the road side bombs, guerilla tactics, car bombs, and even detonating themselves. Throughout their childhoods (normal circumstance for a terrorist) they were indoctrinated with hatred towards the western powers by billionaires, by television, propaganda, and by their schools and parents. Because of this, some of those people who have lived their WHOLE lives hating the west try to fight for their country (and "religion" which is utterly rediculous). For example, Iran, according to intelligence, has 50,000 trained suicide bombers in their revolutionary guards. Saudi Arabia, is probably the main exporter of terrorism though because of the billionaires there who have made money off of oil have trained and created thousands of suicide bombers. Syria is also a major exporter of terrorism. Again I hate and despise terrorists but, because they grew up in the way that they did, some of them weren't really given any choices in life. Changing terrorists has to come from within the country itself and it has to come from outside sources showing them that they can live well without waging war against the west.
The other people who become indoctrinated with fighting for Islam, are most likely depressed people with rather wild fantasies. If they aren't they are just stupid and need to be caught before they are able to pull off the crime. I have no sympathy toward these types of people.
To zapper9cl: The U.S.A. can't create terrorists, but to some degree you are kind of correct because of wanting revenge, but your example was poorly done, try pointing out real examples next time. The U.S. has done many things in the past to upset the middle east. For example, they have messed with Iran's history for the last 60 years or so. They had their own vision of what Iran would become, but because of this vision, the U.S. hurt alot of Iranians to the point where the Iranians decided to fight back. They took complete control of their whole country in 1979 during the revolution. One thing you really need to realize though, The U.S. can't control the ordinary lives of the terrorists and they can't truely create terrorists. Only the countries can, by controlling the propaganda flow and the lives of the children in the country. It makes it even harder to stop when you have rogue elements such as Al Qaeda or Hezbollah putting propaganda into children's minds.

Eh.
One: Humans are infinitely malleable. Anyone can be persuaded to believe anything or do anything. Period.
Two: Watch "Heartland" or "Reno 911" from an Islamic standpoint-that's what's on TV, and seems to paint a picture of Americans. You've got sexual humor (that, quite frankly, isn't even good) or else conflicted people making bad decisions. None of it suggests that Americans have any moral code. This is a powerful point in these ideologies-that we cannot be negotiated with. Our international face, as presented to "them", shows the most negative extremes.
Three: Americans have NOT handled this well. It's a fact. 20% of the population believes that Iraq launched the 9/11 attacks. There's been a huge flood of misinformation on our end as well, which just damages the whole conflict even further. We can look down on them for being misinformed, but Americans are quite misinformed themselves.
Four: Terrorists are human beings. Yes, it's possible for someone to not have a motive, to be a psychopath. But the definition of psychopathy is this: a person who does not, who CAN NOT, care about what happens next. IF that is the case, it is a psychological problem they cannot be blamed for. If, as seems to be the majority of cases, the person in question is a religious zealot, then they are there because of the place they fell into in their own indoctrination. Yes, they are acting immorally, but the nature of their mentors and peers' beliefs affecting their own severely DIMINISHES their accountability for their judgment. I do not defend them, but keep the issues at hand in perspective.

To get some insight, you need to read one book. It's entitled "Milestones". The author is Seyyid Qutb, one of the co-founders of the Muslim Brotherhood. It's not a big book. Only 160 pages in English. That book is to the terrorists what "Mein Kampf" was to the Nazis. You can order it through most of the on-line book dealers like Powell Books or others.

terrorism is very serious
terrorists are those people who kill others either ou tof religious stuff, or to get money for their family (there may be no option left to them to earn money for their family, we really dont know the background of all such people, why they started doing this stuff)
these people are actually messed up, they dont know what to do, what is right and wrong

Terrorists are lunatics to pursue their chosen goals. They are brainwashed with wrong ideology. Instead of achieving their goals, they perish in the violence.
