She may have problems. But tell her that you won't let your daughter go there until she cleans up. Rat feces can have diseases and ecoli, etc. Think of the plague!

Well it sounds as though there's more going on here, you know your mom better than anyone. Use your judgement as to whether it's depression, sickness, that's making her this way. But the key word you said is stuck in her ways, so that leads me to believe she's been doing it for awhile. It's not healthy to have rat waste laying around her house, or in her drawers. They are filthy, and carry diseases. Try laying some traps, or having a professional exterminator come out. If she has trash, it's attracting the rats. Try to help her clean, or convince her to get a housekeeper that comes out once a month and deep cleans her house. Things will work out for you.

I would not allow your daughter to be exposed to this filth! Tell her if she wants to see your daughter that her place has to be cleaned. If possible have her hire a company to come in and do a deep cleaning, or a personal housekeeper. A personal housekeeper is cheaper, but they might not be licensed. Also, have someone check to find out where the rats/mice are getting in. If there are holes anywhere fill them with steel wool. They cannot chew through it. I had to do this with a camp trailer because every spring my mother in law had mice droppings, but since plugging the holes they have not been able to get back in.

maybe u should think about hiring a professional cleaning company. to come out and clean the house. look in the phone book. or on-line. if other people tell her that the house is that dirty she might believe them. if u cant afford the cleaners. try to get everyone in the family to pitch in and help pay together. or make it a surprise for her birthday present.

It sounds like her house has not always been this way. If she is older, maybe she is not able to do the things that she wants done. Could you offer her your help? My parents are getting up there in age and cannot always do what they know needs to be done. My dad has Parkinson's Disease and cannot move the way he used to, but he still knows what and how things need to be done. My mom can't do everything, and since I live close by I go visit twice a week and help them out for an hour or two. My dad gives me a list of things that I can do to help out and it also gives me a chance to chat with them and see what is going on in their lives and I can tell them what's going on in mine. They still have plenty of advice for me, but now, I also have some for them! Benefits for all of us!

Well she might suffer from hoarding. It is more common then you think and people can have it in varying degrees. I am going to give you the links to some websites so you can read them yourself. There is wayyyyy too much info to just type here and i would be repeating what the sites can say better. I hope this helps.

Have you considered that your mom is not well? Was her house always like this? Or is it something new? Cause if it's new, then she's not well and you need to get her some help.

And since I'm a mom with 3 teens, you're gonna get both barrels from me.... Instead of sitting at home on yahoo answers, why don't you get off your but and go give your mom a hand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hard to say, is she depressed? Has she been this way all her llife? If she has been like this for a long time, I doubt if you are going to change her. good luck.
