i have a 87 Nissan sentra right now that gets around 44 to the gallon all the time,it has the 1.6 engine in it,single cam, nothing special about it,except its been taken care of,in town it gets around 37,and on the high way it does get a solid 44 miles to the gallon all the time,if your in 5,th gear ,your getting gas mileage with it,no one can explain it,it just does it,i can get close to 47 with it on level ground driving at 55-60 mph, that's good mileage, and still running the original clutch in it also, the new ones wont even do that, there's no way to explain the mileage on this car,i run Bosch platinum plugs in it and synthetic oil,its been a good one,if it blows i,ll re-build it,good luck.

42 MPG in a 1984 Corolla between Fairbanks and Anchorage, AK. Drove behind motorhomes and semis. (Not really close, but when you've got something with the aerodynamics of a barn going 80 mph down the highway, it makes a big hole in the air)

33 MPG in a 1996 Miata, Phoenix to Kingman, AZ.
Just set the cruise at 75-ish, and kept my low-speed revs low.

(seems low, I know, but it's high-revving and low-geared.)

28 MPG in a 1996 Thunderbird, IIRC, driving east through New Mexico.
T-birds seem to do best on the highway with OD on at 70-75 mph.

That little computer mileage thing on my car shows that I get 199 MPG when I exit the highway and coast to a stop, so I figure if I only drive downhill, I should be able to sustain that. Otherwise, I get low 30's on the highway.

I currently drive a 2001 Ford Escape, and the best mileage that I've had was 27mpg (I'm averaging about 24mpg)

But I used to own a 1988.5 Ford EXP, and the best mileage that I got in that was 48 mpg.
