You don't. Because you are not ready for a manager until there is something to manage. You need a mentor, an advisor who knows the buisness and can guide you through the maze. That is what I do. If you are a promising actor, I will mentor you for free. My first advice is for you to get Brian O'Neal's book, "Acting as a Business," and my book, "The Tao of Acting, Mentoring for the Aspiring Actor." O'Neil's book is a bargain at Amazon.com, and mine is available from kencosp@aol.com. If you want me to consider mentoring you, you will need to send me complete information about your experience, your goals, and complete information about yourself. When you write me at kencosp@aol.com, I will tell you how to find out who I am on the web and you will find the names of a couple of films I was in and where I was a university professor.

You do not need a manager until you have a busy career that needs managing. Managers generally take 15% commision, and you don't need to pay that much for information you can get for free. Another fantastic book is called "How To Eat and Act At The Same Time" by Tom Logan.

Also, here is a great resource:

Managers work in NYC and L.A.

Hon, actress Halle Barry did NOT have acting experience when she met her Manager, Vincent Cirrincione, in NYC.
I was auditioned by Halle's Manager, but I cared more about my integrity as an actor.

If you do NOT live in NY or L.A., it is very difficult to get a Manager. If you find a manager, make sure he or she is a member of the National Conference of Talent Managers.

Managers need industry connections with Producers, Directors, Talent Agencies, Casting Directors, screenwriters, network programers and others in the industry. That is how Managers get work for their clients.

Vincent and Halle, moved to L.A., from NYC and started their own production company, to produce her movies.

You cannot represent yourself unless you have connections in the industry, television, film, producers, writers, directors, etc.

First do you have any experience in whatever your aiming for? Singing, dancing, acting, so on... If no, you will have trouble finding a manager... I have experience in this so I help you. I can tell you already 99% of managers will ask you if you have any training singing, dancing, acting etc. So you should take some classes either at a college/university to build experience and training or at a creditable singing, dancing, acting, theartre company
