I have this light green grass sprouting up throughout my yard. It doesn't grow in a group or clumps, but single stems spread out. The stems are much thicker than the rest of the grass and it grows tens times faster than my normal grass (it towers over the normal grass). My mother said it was water grass but I looked up pictures on the web and couldn't find anything that matched. I did research grass weeds and nothing that looks like what I got growing. Any ideas or suggestions to steer me in the right direction to get rid of it. Also any ideas on how to get rid of milkweed (I think that is what it is?) I am having problems with that too. Thanks in advance!!!

It sounds like crabgrass. There a ways to get rid of it. You can either use a chemical weed-killer, or a herbicide. You may even have some items on hand that can kill the crabgrass. Vinegar and Salt will kill it.
You just mix 5 tbsp (73.93 ml) of vinegar
to 2 tbsp (29.57 ml) of salt into a sauce pan then place on a burner and heat until boiling to help dissolve most of the salt. (If you need more just double or triple the amount for what you do need). You can either pour the hot water directly onto the weed or you can let it cool down and then pour it onto it. Be sure that the vinegar/salt gets onto the base of the plant and not around any other plants (it will kill any kind of plant) The vinegar will burn the crabgrass and the salt will dehydrate it by stopping it from getting any water. It takes a few days to kill it off completely; but once it does be sure to thoroughly water the areas to wash out the salt in the ground. Then afterwards you can plant grass seeds in those barren spots.

As for the milkweed; unless you have sheep that might eat the plants, you could just leave them. Milkweed is a flowering plant that the Monarch butterfly loves. There are several different specices of the milkweed. In my area we have what is called the common milkweed. It's flowers have a wonderful aroma. If you have an warts you can use the white sap from the milkweed to get rid of them by rubbing some of it onto the wart and then put a band-aid over it.

If you really must get rid of the milkweed you can either use the herbicide weed killer or just use a hoe and dig the plant up.

i know about that grass...have it too. It grows over top an old sidewalk where no other grass will grow. It dies off when it gets too hot or dry, then right back when it rains. Real tough and stringly like. I think the best thing is to improve the soil with something like Scott's turf builder, the reall grass should crowd it out...unless you have an old sidewalk problem - lol.

a pretty good indication is that when you mow, you have a nice level lawn, all but for this stuff which seems to explode right after the mowing, to be taller than the cut grass the next day!!!!.... there's no other way but digging it out that really works.....

I'd rather my child be a lesbian. In my society the pot smoker would be more exceptable, which is sad...i personally believe that the lesbian can at least have a chance to get a stable job or have a good life...the pot smoker child will not have the option of succeeding in life because of what they are addicted to.
