Ministers insisted that British secret agents would only be allowed to pass intelligence to the CIA to help it capture Osama bin Laden if the agency promised he would not be tortured, it has emerged.
MI6 believed it was close to finding the al-Qaida leader in Afghanistan in 1998, and again the next year. The plan was for MI6 to hand the CIA vital information about Bin Laden. Ministers including Robin Cook, the then foreign secretary, gave their approval on condition that the CIA gave assurances he would be treated humanely. The plot is revealed in a 75-page report by parliament's intelligence and security committee on rendition, the practice of flying detainees to places where they may be tortured.

Well I've already stated my case that I feel Bin Laden is dead for various reasons of which you can read here.

I propose that the CIA and British are finally going to "capture" Bin Laden. The reason is that all the other terrorists they catch and kill don't hold as much weight as capturing the real Bin Laden. This is more smoke and mirrors to keep the final act in middle east, the war on terror going.

I predict there will be a major terror attack and they will blame Bin Laden. Then they will capture some Bin Laden lookalike that was somehow in league with Iran so that we can invade or bomb Iran.

He is dead. How do you torture a dead man?

The latest tapes are from the very first film session he did with his CIA brethren.

The last series have all been proven bonafide fakes by everyone but the CIA of course. The "new improved" bin laden is wearing gold jewelry. He uses his right hand. Right there two giveaways. Muslim males are forbidden to wear gold. Bin Laden is a leftie. The faces are very different.

They have published his death over a year ago in Pakistan, Egypt and who knows where else. Face it folks, your government lies. OMG.. I said it.. the Bush Cabal does not tell you the truth!

Meanwhile, they lied about WMDs and Saddam. Now they lie aobut Iran, the only country to have a TRUE democratic election that America undid the next year.

My thoughts are that people need to wake up and smell the burning coffee. The stuff you talk about is all smoke and mirrors to distract.

I like that Bush says NOT to torture an old family friend but then says it is ok to crush the testicles of a 6 year old boy if it will get his Muslim father to confess to a crime!

Hmmm... something kind of ... askew here?

My thoughts are that I'm happy to see concern for human rights and the rule of law on the part of the British. It's good in my opinion that EU countries take International law serious and torture is against International law.

The UK is part of the EU and have no other option but to demand that guarentee of the CIA.I think the CIA seriously messed up and is wrong to not give it to the British.
International law is important even in a war.The terrorists want to end our free way of life, our civilization. They will not have a lot of work if we give it up ourselves.
This is an early example what later also totally went wrong between Europe and the US in regards to the Iraq war.The Dutch were part of the coalition of the willing and were lied to about secret prisons as were other allies.

I wouldn't torture him.

I would give him a parachute and push him out of a slow moving chopper over lower Manhattan around lunch hour on September 11th.

If you're a New Yorker or have ever been to New York you can close your eyes and imagine that party.

That's right! He's ours! We're going to tie him to the memorial at point zero and let real New Yorkers deal with him rather then those amateurs with the CIA.
