I have 2 bug zappers in my backyard. Both are connected to timers (used for lamps inside homes) which are set to go on at sunset and go off at midnight every night (depends on your personal designated times). I place these timers under the eaves of the house to protect them from rain and pets. You'll probably have to use an extention cord so you can run the line up to the hanging bug zappers.

Every month I disconnect them and use a small hand broom or piece of bamboo to whisk away any dead insects that have been caught within the grill of the zappers. Another way to clean them is to use a air-pressure hose.

Hope this information helps get you started!

bug zappers...ok you just bought a bug zapping electricity sucking machine...1st thing (remember to remember this- do not place near house, doing so will bring all the bugs close to your house and possibly inside or on your patio-30 ft sounds good) 2nd...why keep on all the time? yes, you will get a few bugs during the day but bugs come to the light source which about 98%+ of the time is the sun means 2% of the time its working-waste of energy 3rd clean it every week or more for thick bugs or every 2 wks otherwise anything else email me gbradyjr2004@yahoo.com

You should only need it on when you are out or an hour or two prior to you being out there. Cleaning it will come natural. Full tray.........you clean. If you want to sooner than by all means do so. If you would like a natural alternative to electricity try putting up a blue martain house. You could also put up a bat house. Martains are birds that eat alot of mosquitos a night. Bats do also. Bird houses set out this fall may not have birds this year. If you live near water....better. Bats are better near trees.

I would say turn it on when you are going ot use the back yard area. Clean it out when it gets full of bugs. The cleaning time will vary depending on how many bugs you have in the area.
