I'll admit that I haven't followed this as closely as I should, so I'm asking some of the brightest people I know (YOU GUYS!)
What is it that he has supposedly done that has made him so many enemies?

One of three things. Either

(1) he was [as he claimed] unaware of the fact that almost 10% of the senior prosecutors in the country [8 US Attorneys] were being fired. He claimed he was unaware of it, and approved their firing without reviewing the situation. At best, that's being incompetent in his position as manager of the DoJ.

(2) Arguably, he also violated his oath of office and his oath as an attorney, by that incompetence. And by advocating activity that was a clear violation of federal laws. And by allowing other illegal activity to happen in his department. So, he was either incompetent or unethical.

(3) There is the possibility (yet to be verified) that he committed perjury, by testifying falsely under oath before Congress. That's a felony.

So, either he's a felon, or is unethical, or is merely incompetent. Any of which are grounds for his removal from office, or at the very least a thorough independent investigation.

And anyone who tries to make it a partisan issue must themselves be far more concerned with partisan politics than seeing whether the chief law enforcement officer in the country is either a criminal or unethical or incompetent.

Gonzales stands accused of committing perjury before Congress last week. He was testifying regarding meetings concerning the domestic spy program. Many people mistakenly equate the latest allegations to the attorney firings, but this is incorrect.

Supposedly, he had a hand in firing several US Attorneys (who, as you probably know, work for the Department of Justice) solely for political reasons.

He claimed to have nothing to do with it. Turns out he probably did.

Now, this would not be as bad of a problem if it didn't look like it had a lot to do with those Attorneys not pursuing litigation in response to political pressure from Republicans. It's a big no-no to fire the government's lawyers because they don't follow possibly illegal intervention pressuring them towards pursuing the president's political agenda.

In the ensuing investigation, he has been hiding a lot and simply obfuscating, claiming to be unable to answer questions, etc.

Between initially hiding his involvement and currently hiding any important information, he's not everyone's favorite man right now.

He's a REALLY BAD LIAR. Like all liars he can't even keep his lies straight. He has answered the same question from Congress three different ways on three separate occasions. You would think he would keep crib notes on what he said the last time he was in front of Congress so he wouldn't look like a 5 year old trying to lie his way out of trouble.

He got the position because he will bend the law to further King Bush the Usurper's agenda. That's why those prosecutors who had integrity were fired... they wouldn't bow to the Republican party's pressure to misuse their power for politcal gain. Out with those that won't support Bush's view of the world, in with Gonzales who has no integrity and has no problem lying for his master.

As Rio said he & Rummie helped get the torture camps afloat openly defying Geneva Peace Treaty and the protocol of this great country. Why do these people want to ruin our country and put us in jeopardy? Like they even know what they are doing. They talk of religion but don't know God, who IS watching and waiting.

He has been very inconsistant in his testimonies to congress and been caught in outright lies. He has been contradicted by many people including the head of the FBI. He seems like a real snake in the grass that has his position because of his unquestioning loyalty to Bush.
