Correct spelling -- Ad maiorem dei gloriam (AMDG) -- For the greater glory of God.

From what I have read, I don't think the Jesuits had much of an impact on José Rizal, except to reaffirm his position that was very much anti-Roman Catholic.

In one of his final notes, he writes: "'Adios', I go where there are no slaves, no hangmen or oppressors, where faith does not kill."

On the place near where he was executed stands a monument with his words, "I want to show to those who deprive people the right to love of country, that when we know how to sacrifice ourselves for our duties and convictions, death does not matter if one dies for those one loves – for his country and for others dear to him."
