Why, in your most honest opinion, do you think people hate and/or fear word problems more than anything else in terms of math?

Because they only give you information and you have to come up with the equation to solve it. That's why I don't like them.

I just completed honors algebra 2. At the beginning of the year I hated the word problems because I just scanned what they said and it all sounded so difficult and technical. It can be overwhelming because it looks like so much information, when really it isn't. It's just easier for students when they can be given the direct information like the equation and the numbers needed, not in word form. It just look overwhelming.

I'm one of those people. I personally have a problem putting it down on paper right. The question itself can cause issues (You don't know what to solve for). Sometimes "extra" info in the problem can cause lots of mistakes.

I hated Calculus.

Algebra word problems were my favorite. I really loved figuring them out.

i hated word problems until my teacher showed us an easy way to do them. im in precalc.
