Passion is the key ingredient. One of our family's best friends left his position as a lawyer and became a chef at age 50...he was the second oldest in his class. He was like everyone else in the class ... he wanted to learn skills and the tricks of the trade!

Most culinary art schools are eligible for state and federal funding in the form of student loans and grants. Most will help you find employment that will complement your school hours if you need to work while in school.

Do your research on schools! Be sure to visit each campus to talk with the students...almost every school has a restaurant on campus to allow the students "clinical" time...drop by, have a bite, and see what you think of each one. Culinary schools can be aggressive in recruiting...make sure you get one that has a great placement rate and that teaches in a style you would enjoy.

32 years young! You've got your whole life ahead of you!

I read about a lady who got a college degree at 95. You are just a kid and learning to cook is easy.

At 32 you could still join the military and many cooks/chefs got their start in the military (I'm not advocating, I'm just saying). If you joined the national guard you could finish school in 16 weeks or so, get paid for going and be back home in time for Christmas. The up side of this is that there are chances to get additional money for further training !! And if you fininsh 20 years at 52 you could get a retirement check $400-800 from the military for the rest of your life.

If you have money or are not interested in the one weekend a month thing, there are many Culinary Arts schools and you can get scholarships and grants to help pay.

You can always attend a culinary school like johnson and whales or one of the cordon bleu programs, they are all excellent and most of them will only take you 2 years-- but at the end you would be a pro... A few things to consider

1. do you have the $$ for culinary training?
2. Are you willing to train to be a professional (2 year investment)
3. what level of cooking do you want to do?
4. do you have family?

If you want to be an executive chef or something like that... be prepared to give up your weekends and nightlife. There is money to be made, and culinary schools are very good at finding a job for you, but you may find that the lifestyle is demanding.. hope this helps

Are you talking about cooking in a restaurant as a profession, or just for your own pleasure? In any event, no one is ever too old to learn something new if he or she really wants to. I'm sure you can learn to cook. Take some classes or read cook books. No one is born learning how to cook, or do anything else. They are acquired skills. And 32 is young! Go for it!

32 is not old at all!! Of course you can still learn! People go back to school all the time, especially stay at home moms whose children have left the nest. Go for it. You're much younger.

I am not in the cooking field, however, your question caught my eye. You are never too old to learn. I say, go for it, enjoy it and use it to the best of your ability!!

No. Too late. Be content with opening cans of cat food. It is the most nutritious food, anyway.
