I can't understand why Johnny Carson's estate has not allowed rebroadcasts of The Tonight Show with J.C. to air anymore.

Is it an NBC decision - to keep people tuned into the nimrod Leno?

Is it the Carson estate that wants to only sell DVDs?

Is there another reason?

Please answer with a reasonable response, not a "well, I think..." I really would like to know why we can't watch Johnny on TV anymore.

While I appreciate the memories (and yes, I know clips exist on YouTube... that's what made me ask the question), I still would like a definitive answer to my question.

Sorry to be blunt... just want to get the answer.

It is all about syndication rights. They make more money on dvds and marketing but seem to withhold the original night show episodes from televised publication. It is foolish because there is a great fan base that would appreciate the return to tv.

It would be way too dated for the present day. It is cool to watch clips every once in awhile, but so many things have changed since Johnny Carson was on the air that no one would really watch a dated repeat of a talk show from the 60s 70s and 80s.

The Tonight Show has been on the air since Steve Allen (b4 either of us were born probably) . I have NEVER seen a "rerun" of ANY Tonight Show . MAYBE I tunes or somewhere might have old episodes. just a try.

I hate Leno too & I miss Johnny :(

Wait until 2009 or 10 is it: Conan O Brien is taking over : I'd rather have John Stewart but HE has the Daily Show which ROCKS!!!

Hey, Great Question.

I'v always loved the late night show of Jonny Carson ever since the 1970's.

Sorry, Jay Leno.
You are funny too but...... Jonny Carson, man. He would really crack me up laughing, the hillarious facial expressions he'd make.
The Funniest night time talk show Host in history of TV I think.

I heard that Johnny's contract stated that he did not want his show to ever be re-run. It probably has something to do with money. It would be interesting to know. I loved the Johnny Carson show. It would be nice to see it again.

I also loved the Howdy Doody show. It would be nice to have a channel that just showed some of our favorite, old shows, huh?

Sorry Audie, I'd watch them. I never got a chance to catch his show when it was on due to my work schedule.

They probably figure a lot of people would watch that and not the other "stuff" that's on now.
