Volunteer
Time, energy, human contact, kindness and respect are ways to give back.
See something that needs to be done and do it. A piece of trash on the ground, pick it up. A hand that needs held, hold it. Tears that need dried, dry them.
When you "give back" you receive more than you can even dream. That in itself is worth all the money in the world.
Peace.

JFK died wondering "Not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country." Write a congressman, make a petition, help African Termoil, help abolish poverty by cleaning urban areas. Teach and Learn. Give and get, then give more. Charity is not blindly giving money to the Red Cross. Charity is help strengthening your community and inspiring people to do good for others with no gain for themselves. Follow this. Do a good deed for 3 people. Tell them to do the same and pass the message. Call it Paying it Forward. 3 becomes 9 to 27 and so forth. It will get larger fast.

If money is not your way, what is? How do you acquire the things you need to live if not in voluntary exchange with other people? And what makes you feel like you need to "give back", unless you have taken by some other means?

Ah, I don't feel that the world owes me a living, but I served in the Army and definitely do not feel I need "to give back"
I know that is the in-thing, but if people don't help you, why must you go without to help others?

Plant trees... Recycle all materials you can. For biodegradable, make fertilizer. For plastics, store and sell to companies that recycle. For paper, create something: soil for hanging plants, garden, etc.
If you have extra food, and clothes you do not need, give to street urchins. Spend time for a sincere talk with street kids. You learn from them they learn from you. Beyond that, create friendship w/o economic boundaries.

Giving of your time and the services of the skills you possess, whether they be medical, manual, or just listening. Just being there is the most important part of 'giving back'....caring.

I do it by being vegan. Such a simple change makes a big difference for animals and the environment.
I also do community service.
