The ICC Champions Trophy, also known as the Mini World Cup, is cricket's One-Day International tournament second in importance only to the Cricket World Cup. It was inaugurated as the ICC Knock Out tournament in 1998 and has been played every two years since, changing its name to the Champions Trophy in 2002. All ten full members of the International Cricket Council (ICC) take part, together with (for the first four competitions) two associate members.

The present ICC Chasmpions Trophy was started with the name of ICC Knock out Tournament in 1998.

South Africa won the ICC Knock out Tournament 1998 defeating West Indies in the final played at Djhaka on 1st November, 1998.

The first tournament with the name of ICC Champions Trophy was played in 2002. The final was played between Sri Lanka and India at Colombo on September 29th and 30th 2002 and the trophy was shared between Sri Lanka and India as there was no result.
