^The story is real, but she was tried and acquitted.
Borden, Lizzie (1860-1927), accused murderer, who allegedly killed her father and stepmother with an ax in Fall River, Massachusetts, in 1892. Lizzie was the youngest child born to Andrew and Sarah Borden. Lizzie's father, a banker, was one of the richest people in Fall River. When Lizzie was two years old, her mother died; her father's second marriage a few years later supposedly caused dissension within the family over matters of inheritance and because of the lower social status of his new wife's family.
On August 4, 1892, the bloody corpses of Andrew Borden and his wife were found in their home. Lizzie's stepmother had been killed by 19 blows to the head, and her father had died of similar injuries. Within a week, police arrested Lizzie Borden for the crime, but she was acquitted after a sensational murder trial. In spite of the acquittal, the community of Fall River shunned Lizzie for the rest of her life. Lizzie's actions, particularly her burning of a blood-stained dress in the kitchen stove a few days after the murders, led many to believe that she was guilty of murdering her parents. Lizzie and her surviving sister split their inheritance. The sisters died within a few days of each other in June 1927.
A children's rhyme immortalized what allegedly happened on the morning of August 4: ?Lizzie Borden took an ax, and gave her mother forty whacks/When she saw what she had done, she gave her father forty-one.? In addition to the rhyme, the Lizzie Borden story has been made into an opera and a ballet, and is the subject of numerous books.

Lizzie Andrew Borden (July 19, 1860 – June 1, 1927) was a New England spinster and central figure in the axe murders of her father and stepmother on August 4, 1892 in Fall River, Massachusetts. Although acquitted, no one else was ever tried, and she has remained notorious in American folklore.

Lizzie Borden did indeed kill her parents! In fact, she was not found guilty, even though many believed that she did kill them! So, she never was sentenced.
The weird thing...she lived out the rest of her life in that very same house!! Ewwwwwww! She never married and was a loner from what is recorded about her and her life!

She was aquitted, but most experts agree that she killed them while naked, washed off the blood, got dressed and calmly reported the crime, she had the motive, the opportunity and the weapon.
It was a crime of pasion, her father and stepmother were struck many times after they were dead, showing a hatred that can only be developed by .years of living together.
The father's eyes were a particular target for the attacker, suggesting that he had seen something that the attacker deeply resented him seeing, leading some to speculate that Lizzie was daddy's "special" friend.
