I personally think that is a missconception. I think that if a dog normally barks,protects his/her territory then the dog does just that. The mailman comes on a regular basis hence people saying dogs don't like the mailman,wolves have a bad rep as well. I mean my dog barks at everything,but now that she's used to him she no longer barks at em! Remember back in the day the dog barked at the milkman......kay sara sara

My Mailman Was Terrified Of My Black Lab & Wouldn't Leave The Mail If He Was Out Front On The Porch Chained Up Even Though He Drove A Mail Truck, He Told Me That My Dog Looked At Him Like He Was A Big Fat Pork Chop That Could Chew His Face Off...lol~

I have no idea. Maybe they think that the mailmen are intruders. But some dogs are a little too friendly, aren't they?

The mailman walked onto the property without following proper protocol (sniff a bush, take a leak, tear up some grass and wander around) and when the dog barked at him, he left the area. So the next time the dog sees him, he remembers that if he barks, that guy will leave, so he exerts himself to make the guy move off faster. If the dog ever gets the chance to meet him outside, he attacks because the mailman violated protocol.

Dogs think they have to protect their own yards, their "territory". Mailmen have this nasty habit of coming into their yard every day.
