Looking to spend about $50,000 on a cab w/ sleeper, I've been driving for 7 years but know want to become a O/O.
Im going to see if i can check out a few companies i can contract w/ before i make the purchase to haul trash to landfills.
(If you know any companies i should check out in MD. & Va. area it would be very helpful).
I need to know what specs i should look for in a tractor that would be helpfull in the trash hauling industry. For ex. what should look for as far as ratio, axle weight ect. I dont even know what that stuff means. (Please explain)
Any tips that could help me in that industry would be great.

Try Volvo Trucks in Virginia (US headquarters for Volvo trucks). They can customize any Volvo truck product to make it exactly what you want. They have technical specialists who can guide you through the whole process. They can do anything from a fleet to a one-of-a -kind for any industry.

You will be looking for a used truck in that price range and a class 8 model, Kenworth T800 is a very good model.

I would sit down with a local dealer to find the right used truck.

If you don't know what the axle weight means, or whether you should get a single or double axle, whether it should be a fixed or adjustable fifth wheel, etc., then you aren't ready to follow this plan.
A reputable dealer can give you advice on gearing ratios, and for all the other things you want to know, get in touch with some people doing the work and ask their advice. Find the truckstop they fuel at, and ask them while they're filling the tanks.
Most drivers are happy to share what they know.
