my daughter is now 6 months. I have been trying to have her weaned by oct 1st. I am not doing well. I can't pump and she just chews on the bottle and laughs at me when I give it to her. Is it because she doesn't like the formula? Or because she doesn't understand the bottle??? Help!!! Any help would be great.

She probably isn't understanding the bottle. I would suggest trying th playtex nurser bottles because the nipple is designed to be more like the breast and the design allows the baby to eat 1/2 upright and get less air.

One note on that is that you will have to wean from the playtex bottle to a regular bottle at some point, but what I did was go right to sippy cups after about 1 year.

Also pumping can be tough, is it possible that you don't have the right pump? If you could pump that would be a big help because you can put hald brest milk half formula in the bottle and make it easier on babys tummy.

I used a hand pump rather than an electric pump it gave me more control and worked way better.

Anyway good luck!

Does he take the bottle when someone else is holding him? I would suggest having others hold him while he is getting a bottle and see if that would work. He might be relying on the breast for comfort which is something only you can give. But if daddy or grandma is around, and you are not, he will have to take the bottle. He might really like the taste of breastmilk. Perhaps you could mix some breastmilk w/ the formula and slowly add more formula to the mix. At 5 months, he might be able to try a fancy sippy cup. They have ones that mimmic bottles a little bit with sucking, you could give those a try?

The breast bottle and the playtex nursers were the only bottles my son would take at first. After we got the hang of those we were able to move on to other bottles.

One thing that helped was having someone other than me offer the bottle when he was hungry. He didn't fully get it with me as he was used to nursing. When I had my husband or mom bottle feed him though things went much smoother. Within a couple days I was able to bottle feed him.

Good luck. I hope it works out for you!

you can try a breast bottle. this worked with my little girl and we went from that to the Playtex bottles. you can get this bottle at onestepahead.com go to the bottle section and it is on the second page it is called a breast bottle nurser for 14.95 you may think it is a bit high for a bottle but 3 years ago a paid 24.00 for that same bottle. It was a life saver for us. I had to stop breastfeeding for medical reasons and she refused the bottles no matter who tried to feed her. That was the only bottle that worked for us. Good luck and hope that the bottle will work for you as well as it worked for us.

i know it is really hard my baby its almost a year old and she still breast feeding and believed or not i commit the same mistake with my 3 kids and one thing that i learn out this is the went you are ready just say no more and it sounds really mean but if you say OK one more time and that's because the baby is crying . another thing is true they don't like the formula (have you tasted it taste horrible) and she probably don like the bottle either I'm waiting till she turns one year old that's going to be on October then she is gonna be able to drink cows milk so good luck

do you use a pacifier at all she may be confusing the bottle with that if you do. try one of those bottles that have a more "natural" nipple look.
