Is there any real difference between Core Duo, Duo Core,Core 2 Duo and Dual Core?

Are there any differences in these processors or is it just a matter of name preference? I am getting confused by all the pc shops using these different terms.

I agree. What we need is Benchmarks, so we can make a choice based on measurements and specifications. You see, the right motherboard and the right RAM can make all the difference.

There should be a website, where all Brands and Models are listed; where you could make an informed choice on real performance. Benchmarks, showing operation system should appear in this list.

Core Duo = u have 2 core or u can say 2 brain.
Core 2 Duo = the core/the brain is Version 2 and have 2
all is same

Both processor have dual core.
Benchmark at same speed core 2 duo faster than core duo.

Okay let me explain each one individually.

Duo Core - Does not exist.

Dual Core - Generally speaking a generic term for any processor that has 2 processing cores. For example, the Pentium D, Core Duo, Core 2 Duo, Athlon 64 X2, and Turion X2 are all dual core processors. It is also now used as a brand name by Intel, called the Pentium Dual Core. In a laptop it is a cutdown version of a Core Duo, in a desktop it is a cutdown version of a Core 2 Duo.

Core Duo - A specific line of dual core processors made for laptops. Basically uses old architecture used in Pentium Ms.

Core 2 Duo - A specific line of dual core processors made for desktops and laptops. Uses new architecture that is faster than the old Pentium 4s and Pentium Ds for desktops, and faster than Core Duos for laptops.

Core2 is the advanced version of Intel's new processor. A Core2 is just a single core processor. A Core2duo is a dual core core2. and a Core Duo is the basic version of Intel's new processor with two cores.
I believe Intel created the name with a 2 to confuse people and think that they are getting dual core, when it only has two cores if it is a Duo.

Dual core of course means it has two processing cores. So its like having two processors in one.
