I am interested...

For people of all walks of life, yes the big one... What do you think the meaning of life is?

And how do you know if you're moving towards that, and if you're living a good one?

Deep!

First ask yourself where this need for meaning comes from.

If we are created beings, then the need for meaning must come from our Creator and, in that case, it makes sense to seek our Creator. For if our Creator exists, then He most likely placed our need for meaning into our nature to point us to seek Him.

If we decide there is no God, then all of our need for meaning has no basis in reality. Our need for meaning, love, compassion, justice, courage, procreation and everything else is just a evolution-provided drug fix, i.e. little shots of feel-good drugs that we get when we think certain thoughts. The alternative to God is slavery to mindless, purposeless, pointless evolution.

So I prefer to take a chance and seek God even though I am not sure that He even exists.

Forty-Two.

I know- you'll think I'm kidding (especially if you know what book that answer comes from) but I'm quite serious. I think we make our own meaning and 42 is as good as any! Why not? I'm curiuos to hear other answers, though!

Since I'm a book person, BTW, let me recommend that if you enjoy writing short bits and getting free books, there is a free short-wrting contest right now on at http://lynnfo.blogspot.com which looks easy and fun.

The meaning of life - to reproduce and continue the human race.

You will know if you are moving towards that and if it is good.

If you are sad because you have unanswered questions, I don't know why. The purpose in human life becomes our essence in childhood, the becoming for the Purpose concept its self.

The Erikson life-stage virtues, in the order of the stages in which they may be acquired, are:

hope
will
purpose
competence
fidelity
love (in intimate relationships, work and family)
caring
wisdom

the meaning of life, is to ask this question over and over again on yahoo answers, and then picking 42 as the correct answer.

perhaps there is more to life then spending it here asking the same questions without any really answers.

you make your own meaning. thats really the big purpose of it all. as you walk your orad of life you find your own meaning. there is a time where you stop and let peace come, and there the wind will blow and the sun will shine, and you will know why you live and what you want to live for.
you find your meaning and die happy.

I concur with the Dalai Lama, who says that the ultimate purpose in life is to seek happiness.

"meaning of life" makes no sense to me, for it simply is life and living, there is no meaning, there is doing and being.
meaning is a mind game, being is in the heart where life flowes from.
